I'm going to go sit in this cubicle and we'll come get you in a little bit." And yeah, in about 45 minutes, someone came by and got me, and they said, "Yeah, I think we're going to have to cancel your contract." So that was an early on experience that I had.Īnd it kind of set the stage for this unsettledness that I had about the modern economy and how fragile things are. And I said, "Well, so what am I supposed to do?" And they're like, "Well, to be honest, I don't know if I'm going to have a job by the end of the day today. And I remember walking into that scene, it was almost like a war zone.Įveryone was standing up, looking at each other, talking across their cubicles, and I showed up for my first day of work. And the day after I was brought in, some corporate buyout fell through, and the entire company was not shut down, but almost everybody there, including the person who hired me, was laid off that day. com company, and I had just recently been brought in. I remember I was in a room, and I talk about this in the book, but I was in a. And so one of the things I learned early on was just how fragile the corporate ladder can be. And one of the things that I learned quite early on in my career, I graduated right into the. It's what I was always interested in doing.Įven as a kid, I was always into computers and high tech kind of stuff. That's what I've been doing for the last 20 years. So I had my computer programmer, computer technology consultant background. So maybe you could start with some of your own personal story, what brought it about, and what got you thinking about this subject matter.
